A WOMAN IN A CAR WITH ITS WINDOWS DOWN SCREAMED “ALLAHU AKBAR” AS SHE RAN UP ONTO THE SIDEWALK AND RAN-OVER UPWARDS OF 40 PEOPLE IN LAS VEGAS LAST NIGHT
An Islamic woman driving a car with a three year old child inside, who INTENTIONALLY drove onto the sidewalk to strike innocent people. Police, however, have been instructed by their superiors to NOT use the word “terrorism” in relation to this incident, because Las Vegas does not want tourists to be frightened away from the city.
The driver, behind the wheel of a 1996 Oldsmobile, sped away from the scene. The vehicle was later found at a hotel and the driver was arrested, police said.
She has been charged with murder, child abuse or neglect and failure to remain at the scene of an accident, jail records show, and is being held without bail at Clark County Jail.
The driver “went up and off these streets, two or possible three times,” according to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Lt. Dan McGrath. The suspect allegedly drove off after the incident and was later apprehended at a hotel. She was interviewed by police and her blood was drawn for a sobriety test and was being held in jail with charges pending. She had recently moved to the area. The car she was driving was registered in Oregon, authorities said.
According to one eye witness “As we were walking across the street, this car comes flying through the red light. She ran up on the sidewalk and smashed into a group of people walking across the street and into the group of people at the corner. She did not slow down and appeared to accelerate as she hit the sidewalk.”
The deceased victim has been identified by Clark County coroner John Fudenberg as 32-year-old Jessica Valenzuela of Buckeye, Ariz., a suburb of Phoenix. The coroner said the woman had been visiting Las Vegas with her husband. A cause of death is pending, with an autopsy scheduled Monday.
Justin Cochrane, a property manager from Santa Barbara, Calif., said he was having dinner at a sidewalk restaurant outside the Paris when the incident took place.
The car appeared to be going 30 to 40 mph when it first hit the pedestrians on Las Vegas Boulevard, Cochrane said. “It was just massacring people,” he said.
The vehicle then went farther down the road and drove back into another crowd of pedestrians on the sidewalk, he said.
Cochrane said he couldn’t understand why the car went into the crowd a second time. “Why would it slow to go around and then accelerate again?” he said. “I thought it’s a crazy person.”
Cochrane said he saw children and adults injured and on the ground as the car drove away.
Clark County Fire Chief Greg Cassell said 70 emergency crew workers were sent to the scene.
According to that witness. there is a large area of plants and bushes separating the sidewalk and the strip, but the woman driver ran through both. The witness estimates at a speed to be 40-45 miles per hour. “People were flying off the front of her car and people were smashing into other people as she plowed through the crowd.”
According to Police, 37 people were hit and one person was killed. Six of the victims were listed in Critical Condition but they have since been upgraded to stable.
The crash occurred about 6:40 PM local time in front of the Paris Hotel & Casino, and Planet Hollywood. Police are quite explicit in saying the crash was intentional.
Lakeisha N. Holloway, 24, of Portland, has been identified as the driver, who had a toddler in the back seat when she allegedly hit pedestrians on two different sections of the sidewalk while heading north on Las Vegas Boulevard near Bellagio Way.
She is accused of murder, child abuse or neglect and failure to remain at the scene of an accident, jail records show, and is being held without bail at Clark County Jail.
Prosecutors say they expect to file murder charges and other counts against the driver. Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson said Monday that the vehicle could be considered a deadly weapon.
He said: ‘When a person drives a 2,000-pound-plus motor vehicle intentionally onto a sidewalk, killing and injuring scores of people, that’s murder.’
On Monday, Clark County Coroner John Fudenberg said Jessica Valenzuela, 32, of Buckeye, Arizona, died in the crash Sunday night. The coroner said the suburban Phoenix woman was visiting Las Vegas with her husband. A cause of death is pending, with an autopsy scheduled for Monday.
