Possible Exoplanet Star System Found

A stunning new picture has led astronomers to the discovery of a potential exoplanet. A T-Tauri star named CVSO 30 that was first discovered in 2012 was found to host an exoplanet by using a detection method known as transit photometry, where the light from a star can be observed as dips as a planet travels in front of it. Now, observations from ESO’s Very Large Telescope (VLT) in Chile, the W. M. Keck Observatory in Hawaii, and the Calar Alto Observatory facilities in Spain have been combined and may show that there may also be a second planet. While the previously-detected planet, CVSO 30b,...

Do You Ever Get The Feeling You Are Being Followed?

An unbelievable new discovery shows that Earth has a small “quasi-satellite” asteroid that keeps a constant orbit around our Sun, just as we do and may continue to do so for as long. Asteroid 2016 HO3 was first spotted by the Pan-STARRS 1 asteroid survey telescope in Hawaii, operated by the University of Hawaii’s Institute for Astronomy and funded by NASA’s Planetary Defense Coordination Office. Paul Chodas, manager of NASA’s Center for Near-Earth Object (NEO) Studies at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California said “Since 2016 HO3 loops around our planet, but never ventures very far away as we both go around the...

More Research Needed Into Gravitational Wave Astronomy

For the second time in history, astrophysicists have just announced that they have directly detected gravitational waves caused by the collision of two black holes. An Australian team has been analyzing data collected by the two Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) detectors in the US that picked up the first historic gravitational wave signal for months ago, and were actually able to watch two black holes orbiting each other 27 times in their last second before colliding. Team member Susan Scott, an astrophysicist from the Australian National University in Canberra said, “This has cemented the age of gravitational wave astronomy. This shows data is...

Second Gravitational Wave Detected

A new discovery was announced at an astronomical meeting in San Diego revealing that a second pair of black holes that devoured each other 1.4 billion years ago have been detected. The same group of astronomers that produced the first audio of the gravitational-wave chirps, they gathered that in the new merger, the black holes were roughly 14 and 8 times as massive as the sun, circled and combined into a single spinning black hole 21 times as massive as the sun. The collision spilled an amount of energy equivalent to the entire mass of the sun into space-time. Albert...

Could A Real Life Kraken Have Been Discovered?

A startlingly new video has been uploaded to YouTube, claiming a strange sighting, via Google Earth, as a possible UFO but now, many viewers point out the more likely explanation of the image is that of a Kraken. The mythical beast of Nordic folklore that haunted the icy seas of the North Sea, was reportedly spotted off the coast of Deception Island near Antarctica. Scott C Waring of UFO Sightings Daily, surprisingly agrees with the majority, having studied the coordinates himself. Waring said ‘I used Google ruler and it says this is 30 meters (100 feet) from head to end, but the...

Dark Thirty Radio – June 17th, 2016

Tonight On Dark Thirty Radio Images Taken From fMRI’s Produce Portraits From Thoughts Researchers used an incredible new form of functional magnetic resonance imaging pattern analysis which is now being used by computers to predict faces by using data from the memory-centered area of the brain. Hongmi Lee and Brice A. Kuhl from the Kuhl Lab at the University of Oregon studied the area of the brain responsible for processing faces, and stated ‘Recent findings suggest that the contents of memory encoding and retrieval can be decoded from the angular gyrus (ANG), a subregion of posterior lateral parietal cortex. Visually perceived faces...

Scientists Now Show That Asteroids Carried Water To The Moon

Scientists have now proven that the water that was deposited on the moon came for asteroids, and not comets, as previously thought. Our moon was once thought to be completely devoid of water, as the Apollo missions failed to find any concrete evidence of water in lunar soil samples. Since then, spectrographic tests from India’s first expedition to the moon determined that lunar soil from within shadowy craters and polar regions contained molecules that could only be due to the presence of water. Now, a study published in Nature Communications, conducted by an international team of scientists, who analyzed data taken from...

Tonight on Dark Thirty Radio  Extraterrestrial Response May Not Arrive For Another 1,500 Years A new study suggests that just because we haven’t heard from extraterrestrial life, doesn’t mean we won’t, it will just take a lot more time than previously hoped. Astronomy student Evan Solomonides from Cornell University, due to the sheer size of the Milky Way, it could be up to 1,500 years before we can reasonably expect to hear back from any extraterrestrials who’ve picked up our transmissions from Earth. Although 1,500 years seems like a long wait for a response that may never come, the researchers are quick...

NASA Asked To Stop Funding ‘How Alien Life Could Impact Christianity’

The Freedom From Religion Foundation is now asking NASA to refrain from investing any more money towards a two-year project Study How Alien Life Could Impact Christianity. Last year, the NASA Astrobiology Program gave a $1.108 million grant to the Center for Theological Inquiry, for a project intended to refresh and expand scholarly and public dialogue on this subject, which is of growing interest due to the discovery of thousands of extrasolar planets and the ongoing search for potentially habitable environments in our solar system and beyond. CTI’s director William Storrar said, “The aim of this inquiry is to foster theology’s dialogue with astrobiology...

New Plant Confirmed To Have Double-Star System

A team led by astronomers from NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center and San Diego State University have used NASA’s Kepler Space Telescope to identify the new planet, Kepler-1647b, and even more remarkably, found that it orbits a double-star system. This newly found planet is 3,700 light-years away and approximately 4.4 billion years old, roughly the same age as Earth, with their stars being similar to our sun, one slightly larger than our home star and the other slightly smaller. The planet has a mass and radius nearly identical to that of Jupiter, making it the largest transiting circumbinary planet ever found. “It’s...

Tonight On Dark Thirty Radio Proof Of TR-3B Spacecraft? A new video, which was submitted to MUFON for review, may be the first actual footage ever recorded of a TR-3B spacecraft. An unnamed witness who claims to have recorded the fabled craft flying over a major highway, said “Triangular UFO hovered over route 45 in Mantua, New Jersey, and turned on its side over the road, and then flew sideways towards Philadelphia” and described the craft as flying extremely slowly, at just around 10 miles per hour. MUFON is still investigating the new footage. Source: Express.Co.UK UFO Spotted Over Turkey Numerous sighting...

Engaging Women and Girls in STEM through Data Science

Tomorrow afternoon between 1 to 3 pm, NASA will host a conversation at their Headquarters in Washington on pathways for women and girls into Stem (science, technology, engineering and math) academic programs and careers. Engaging Women and Girls in STEM through Data Science, will air on NASA Television Wednesday, June 15th and stream live on the agency’s website. This event is part of the United State of Women Summit, a large-scale effort convened by the White House Council on Women and Girls to rally advocates of gender equality, highlight what has been achieved, identify remaining challenges, and chart a course for addressing them. U.S. Chief...
