Mystery ghost fleet washes up in Japan

An unsettling mystery has washed up on Japan’s shores. Over the past two months a fleet of 12 ghost ships containing the rotting remains of sailors has washed up on the Japanese coastline, sparking an investigation in the country. These wooden boats have been found in the Sea of Japan on or near the coast, carrying a chilling cargo — the decaying bodies of 22 people. All the bodies were “partially skeletonized” — two were found without heads — and one boat contained six skulls, the coast guard said. The first boat was found in October, then a series of boats were found...

Art Reflecting Life: Supernatural Predicts The Future?

An Angel and a Demon walk into a bar…yes it sounds like the set up to a joke but it was, in fact, the set up of a very interesting scene in last week’s CW cult hit, Supernatural. We look to movies like Back To The Future and others to see if art can influence life, and I believe Supernatural may have done just that. Season 10 ended with Dean Winchester smiting the fourth Horseman of the Apocalypse, Death and unleashing The Darkness unto the world. Season 11 starts with our heroes trying to figure out how to fix the damage they have brought...

Not Haunted by Ghosts, but Women of the Night

Strange noises, flickering lights, and spooky shadows: neighbors to an empty Chinese warehouse were expecting ghosts when they reported their findings to local police. Instead, what authorities discovered after investigating the dilapidated building was a run-down property being discreetly used as a house of ill-repute. Situated in China’s southeast Zhejiang province, witnesses had good reason to suspect supernatural intrigue: the brothel is located next to a haunted cemetery. Upon being alerted to the strange occurrences, Wenzhou police set up a “paranormal” stake out for a few days. Rather than witnessing ghostly entities, all they observed, however, was a peculiarly high...

Why Does The Exorcist Still Scare Us?

When the supernatural horror film, The Exorcist, appeared on the big screen in 1973, people were not only awestruck but physiologically and psychologically terrified at what they witnessed on film. Rumors quickly spread about the effects the horror flick had on people such as fainting and vomiting in the theater. Today, it’s still considered one of the most iconic supernatural horror films of all time. But how is this one movie so powerful as to be just as prevalent today as it was over 40 years ago? Is it the cool special effects, the frightening face of Regan or is it something...

3 Creatures You’ve Never Heard Of Are you an expert on the cryptid animal kingdom?  Everybody loves monster stories, but there’s no denying that our culture has elected certain “pop stars” when it comes to cryptids. Bigfoot, Nessie and the peace-sign-flashing Gray have become icons and ambassadors for the study of the unknown. However, if one looks deep enough, monsters have been mentioned throughout much of recorded history. If the Dark Matter News team has learned one thing,  it’s that obscure creatures often have the most interesting stories. Several illuminated texts feature illustrations of the strange “Sciopod” reclining on it’s back, it’s...

Pub Crawling Ghost Hunters 0

Are Bar Crawling Ghost Hunts a Recipe for Disaster?

Is alcohol and ghost hunting a dangerous mix? Seasoned paranormal professionals are shocked by a newly formed ghost hunting group offering booze-filled apparition hunts in Brooklyn. “I’m almost at a loss for words,” says John Cassidy a seasoned paranormal investigator of 16 years and Co-founder of Bumps in the Night Paranormal Research. “It is a total disrespect for any of us in the field who have worked for years to help others and more so for the families and spirits that they will encounter on their booze assisted child’s play.  I am very appalled.” According to a recent online article at the Brooklyn Paper  these ghost hunters, otherwise...
