Can Human’s Detect Earth’s Magnetic Fields?

A researcher in US has begun experiments to study human’s ability to detect the Earth’s magnetic fields. Geophysicist Joe Kirschvink from the California Institute of Technology based his hypothesis on how birds, insects, and some mammals seem to be able to use this sense to migrate and orient themselves with the world around them. Although Kirschvink has so far only presented the results of a very small trial involving 24 participants, he says that he has not only been able to identify it in humans for the first time, but that his results can be repeated and verified. Some scientists believe that the...

NASA To Advance Bioengineering In A Big Way

NASA, in partnership with the nonprofit Methuselah Foundation’s New Organ Alliance, has announced a new competition with a $500,000 prize to be divided among the first three teams that successfully create thick, metabolically functional human vascularized organ tissue in a controlled laboratory environment, in an effort to advance the field of bioengineering. Steve Jurczyk, associate administrator for NASA’s Space Technology Mission Directorate in Washington said “The outcome of this challenge has the potential to revolutionize healthcare on Earth, and could become part of an important set of tools used to minimize the negative effects of deep space on our future explorers.” The vascularized, thick-tissue...

Juror Dismissed From Trial After Victim’s Ghost Appears To Her

Just one day into the multi-week trial, an unnamed female juror was granted dismissal due to the woman’s claims of being visited by the deceased victim in the case. Justice Glen Poelman received a letter from the juror which stated “I have a gift of being an intuitive and medium, and although I did not believe this gift would impact my ability to provide judgment on this case based solely on the facts presented before me in court … I am wrong.” The Court of Queen’s Bench judge, read the contents of the letter into the court record, which offered this explanation;...

Trials For Gene Editing Experiments Seeking Approval

Next week, the University of Pennsylvania will seek approval for the first human trials of CRISPR, deploying the gene editing tool to treat certain types of cancer. CRISPR, shorthand for Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats, is a means of editing genomes with greater precision and efficiency than any other methods, by utilizing a naturally occurring bacterial defense mechanism that can be programmed to target specific segments of genetic code and edit the DNA. Though it holds major potential for preventing HIV infection, curing genetic diseases and even creating designer babies, the University of Pennsylvania believes it is ready to trial their CRISPR...

Dark Thirty Radio – June 17th, 2016

Tonight On Dark Thirty Radio Images Taken From fMRI’s Produce Portraits From Thoughts Researchers used an incredible new form of functional magnetic resonance imaging pattern analysis which is now being used by computers to predict faces by using data from the memory-centered area of the brain. Hongmi Lee and Brice A. Kuhl from the Kuhl Lab at the University of Oregon studied the area of the brain responsible for processing faces, and stated ‘Recent findings suggest that the contents of memory encoding and retrieval can be decoded from the angular gyrus (ANG), a subregion of posterior lateral parietal cortex. Visually perceived faces...

Journey To The Fourth Dimension Of The Brain

A new paper has been published in Cognitive Neurodynamics, which suggests that the brain may have an extra fourth dimension. Researchers Arturo Tozzi and James F. Peters illustrate what they were looking for and the conclusion they reached by outlining the following; “How do thoughts flow in the brain? Current advances in neuroscience emphasize the role of energetic landscapes, a sort of functional linens equipped with peaks, valleys and basins made of free-energy, where thoughts move, following erratic and/or constrained trajectories. This review, based on recent findings, introduces the concept of a spatial fourth dimension, where brain functions might take place, as...

Warning Against AI Issued As New Human Genome Project Is Unveiled

A new warning has just been issued to those involved in the creation of artificial intelligence to consider the “profound implications” involved. Philosopher Nick Bostrom, points out that “intelligence is what has lifted humans to their current dominion over many aspects of nature, so we need to consider the safety measures needed now, so that we can plan for the eventuality of an intelligence superior to our own. He backs up his claim with the very strong case of human domination over the rest of the animal kingdom, stating “Chimpanzees are strong…pound for pound, a chimpanzee is about twice as strong as...

Researchers Look For Answers Into Walking Corpse Syndrome

New research into a mysterious and deadly mental illness called Cotard’s syndrome is underway to explain and eventually treat this disorder that causes the sufferer to have any of a number of delusions that range from believing they have no organs, blood or body parts to insisting they are actually dead. Commonly referred to as Walking Corpse Syndrome, this condition was first diagnosed in 1880 when a patient nicknamed Mademoiselle X, who claimed she was missing several body parts and  organs, including brain, chest, stomach and intestines was first described by French neurologist Jules Cotard. Mademoiselle X who believed she...

Dark Thirty Radio – June 1st, 2016

Tonight On Dark Thirty Radio Planet Nine Stolen From Another Galaxy A recent hypothesis suggesting that the highly theorized Planet Nine is actually an exoplanet  from a neighboring planetary system that our Sun stole from another star is now proving to be a very real explanation to its existence in our galaxy…if it exists at all. Astronomer Alexander Mustill from Lund University in Sweden, explained that the evidence is based on the strange alignment of rocky objects in the Kuiper belt, which seems to suggest that  some kind of massive cosmic body is exerting a very strong gravitational force on...

Scientists Try To Recreate The Building Blocks Of Life

Scientists have been trying to replicate the conditions necessary for the origin of life on Earth and now a team from the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich, Germany released the results of  their study of how RNA may have been at the root of it. DNA carries the genetic code that determines physical characteristics while RNA acts as a messenger for DNA by spreading the proteins throughout the body. Lead researcher, chemist Thomas Carell says, “We now have a pathway that would allow us to use simple molecules that were likely present on the early Earth.” They suggest that a...

First Human Thought Successfully Converted To Sound

An incredible new groundbreaking device has just successfully turned human thought into speech. Professor Robert Knight and colleagues at UC Berkeley are leading the research by studying how  “hearing words, speaking out loud and imagining words involves overlapping areas of the brain.” Now, scientists have successfully played back a word someone was thinking by monitoring their  brain activity. Knight explains “We applied a temporal realignment procedure that improved our accuracy in classifying words that are spoken or imagined. Our work showed us it is possible to capture the  brain signals that represented an intended word.” “We want to develop an...

Tonight On Dark Thirty Radio   How To Tell The World We Have Made Contact Scientists are now in the works of developing a method to ensure that when the world is told that extra terrestrial intelligence is confirmed, there is not a world-wide panic. New research published in the  journal Acta Astronautica, outlines that while the detection of a signal from an extraterrestrial intelligence would be life changing for everyone on Earth and could potentially be dangerous, especially if badly handled. Source: CosmosMagazine Researchers Seek Evidence Of Meteor Crash Planetary science field researcher Robert Ward, is asking for the...
