Mars Is Getting Closer By The Year

The US Federal Aviation Administration has just announced that they are in the process of reviewing an application to have an MX-1 lander launch to the Moon next year, land and conduct a series of analyses that will help pave the way to Mars. Moon Express, a California-based space company, hopes to launch by 2017 via a Los Angeles-based company Rocket Lab’s brand new Electron rocket, using the MX-1 lander which is powered by sunlight and hydrogen peroxide rocket fuel to explore the surface of the Moon over a two-week period in 2017. Moon Express co-founder Bob Richards says, “the coffee table-sized...

The X Files Has Done It Again

In a story line that came right out of the popular 90s drama, scientists now believe they may have solved a possible life-saving mystery DNA process, that could be used for cancer treatment and to fight antibiotic resistant bacteria. In a scene played out by Gillian Anderson, Agent Scully suspected aliens inserted branched DNA into her blood and now researchers at the University of Sheffield have used this theory to  reveal how branch DNA molecules are removed from the iconic double-helical structure – a process that is essential for all life forms. Though Agent Sully believed that DNA was added...

Dark Thirty Radio – June 7th, 2016

Tonight On Dark Thirty Radio More Reports Of Mysterious Fireballs Sailing Across The Sky Dozens of new claims have been flooding in across the Midwest, all of which report seeing a  bright flash that fell from the sky and disappeared a couple hundred feet above the horizon. The American Meteor Society received 77 reports of a fireball seen over Illinois, Missouri, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas and Kentucky. One witness claims “I saw a streak of white light followed by a burst of yellow/orange before the object disappeared,” while another stated “it looked like a white flash traveling down quickly and ended...

Warning Against AI Issued As New Human Genome Project Is Unveiled

A new warning has just been issued to those involved in the creation of artificial intelligence to consider the “profound implications” involved. Philosopher Nick Bostrom, points out that “intelligence is what has lifted humans to their current dominion over many aspects of nature, so we need to consider the safety measures needed now, so that we can plan for the eventuality of an intelligence superior to our own. He backs up his claim with the very strong case of human domination over the rest of the animal kingdom, stating “Chimpanzees are strong…pound for pound, a chimpanzee is about twice as strong as...

Tonight On Dark Thirty Radio Recently Uploaded Videos Show Two Separate Possessions A woman named Camela can be seen straining back and forth on a stretcher as she is being taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital. Camela’s eyes can be seen rolling into the back of her head, as a friend, speaking in Spanish tries to calm her, but the most terrifying moment coming as the woman replies in a hoarse voice, that stated “This girl doesn’t exist now. It doesn’t exist.” The demon spirit shakes Camela violently as friends desperately look on, helpless to aid her. No explanation as to...

Could Gravitational Waves Prove String Theory?

Since the first direct evidence of gravitational waves was detected earlier this year, two physicists in Spain are now using this discovery to test out the scientific hypothesis of string  theory. Gravitational waves are like ripples that expand after a major event in space, such as two black  holes merging or the explosion of a massive star and now physicists Isabel Fernandez-Nunez and Oleg Bulashenko of the University of Barcelona are hoping these gravitational waves could help uncover the cosmic strings believed to be incredibly long and thin defects in the curvature of space and time formed right after the...

Astrophysicist Use New Measurements To Calculate The Mass Of The Milky Way

According to astrophysicist Gwendolyn Eadie, whose research is currently being peer-reviewed for publication, has determined that the Milky Way has the same mass as 700 billion Suns.  “And our galaxy isn’t even the biggest galaxy.” Eadie, a PhD student from McMaster University in Canada, explained “Understanding our galaxy’s mass puts it into a better cosmological context. People who study the evolution of galaxies look at how the mass relates to its evolution. If we have a better handle on what the mass of the Milky Way is, we can understand how it and other galaxies form and evolve.” Together with...

The Optical Illusion Of Black Holes

A new study outlined in Physical Review Letters, now reinforces the theory that black holes are nothing more than an optical illusion. First proposed by physicist Leonard Susskind in the 1990s, the holograph hypothesis predicts that the Universe needs just two dimensions, not three, for the laws of physics and gravity to  work as they should. Scientists believe this could actually resolve some big contradictions between Einstein’s theory  of relativity and quantum mechanics which states while ‘nothing can escape a black hole,   matter can never be completely destroyed’ Physicists now suggest that the reason they can’t figure out what happens...

Archaeologists Scan Beneath The Great Pyramid Of Giza

Past decades have seen scientists underestimate the importance of investigating ancient sites, but now a team accompanied by Egypt’s famed archaeologist Zahi Hawass are testing a new subatomic scanners on the Great Pyramid of Giza, in hopes of unlocking answers to the 4,500 burial structure. For more than a decade Hawass held the position of antiquities minister but after a 2011 usurping, had downplayed the usefulness of scans on ancient sites, saying that they have never  found anything important. However, since the scanner was first set up at the site last year, thermal scanning has  identified a major anomaly in...

Humanoid Robots Getting Set To Head To Mars

NASA is teaming up with scientists and students from four universities, in an effort to design humanoid robots to send to Mars. This 5’9, 275 pounds robot named Valkyrie, that can already walk and is learning to interact with people, will be used to carry out vital tasks in environments deadly to human beings. Holly Yanco, professor of computer science, explained “Up in the head, you can see we have a stereo camera pair, we hooked it up to an Oculus Rift, so somebody who’s remotely controlling the robot can see through the robot’s eyes.” It also has cameras on...

Elon Musk Hopes We Are Living In A Virtual Reality

Elon Musk, founder of SpaceX and co-founder of Tesla Motors, discussed the possibility that we are living in a virtual reality at Code Conference, a tech conference in California. When asked what the likelihood was that we are all living in a simulated matrix, Musk uses video games as an analogy. “40 years ago we had Pong – two rectangles and a dot. That’s where we were. Now 40 years later  we have photo realistic, 3D simulations with millions of people playing simultaneously and it’s  getting better every year.” He goes on to suggest that even if the speed of...
